Mounts Bay Distillery
British rum is synonymous with Cornwall, with its rich history of pirates and smugglers.
In this blog, we take a look at a small family-run distillery at The Old Factory overlooking the Mounts Bay in Penzance, Cornwall.
“A passion for excellence”
Influenced by a passion for Cornwall; the sea, cliffs and coves. Mounts Bay Distillery’s rum is a reflection of the love for Cornwall and the sea. A truly Cornish rum fermented in Cornwall, using local botanicas foraged on the clifftops, coves and sea shores
“For the ocean-goers, the sailors, the watermen, the dreamers, stargazers and adventurers, with salt in their veins and a love of the sea”
Keynvor Honey Rum
(Keynvor [Cornish] = Ocean)
A Cornish fusion of honey and rum, a heavenly libation that captivates the senses with its rich flavour and enchanting aroma.
“Bottling the wilds of Cornwall”
Keynvor Honey rum combines the luscious sweetness of honey with the warmth and deep complexity of rum. Delicate notes of sweet floral honey, caramel, tropical fruits, aromatic saffron, vanilla and spices are well balanced. Pepper Dulse seaweed foraged at low tide adds salinity and savoury umami flavour. Gorse foraged from the Cornish cliffs adds complexity and coconut-type flavours.
“Feel the pull of the tides and a yearning for the ocean. Wild storms to peaceful tranquillity”
Rum Dhu Black Spiced Rum
(Dhu [Cornish] = Black)
A double distilled, scratch-made, barrel-aged black spiced rum. A premium black spiced rum with notes of treacle, citrus orange peel, lime and seaberry. All balanced with classic spices of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and a kick of allspice. Further character from coco husk and oak barrel ageing adds sophistication.
“Knuckles pressed white against gunwales on ships out on the blue. Pounding surf against cliffs. Warm nights by the fire with a glass in hand whilst storms batter down”
